Create your own AI girlfriend: how to make one, step by step

Before you start

You need three things. An account, which takes an email address, a Google login or a passwordless magic link and no card. A browser on any device, since Swipey AI runs in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone and shows an Install App banner if you want it on your home screen. And you need to be 18 or over.

The free tier covers creating your AI, basic chat and a limited number of images. Voice messages, voice calls, full character-consistent image generation and on-demand video are part of Premium at $7.99 a month, billed monthly and cancellable any time from Settings, under Subscription. You do not need Premium to build her, so build first and decide later.

How to make an AI girlfriend in seven steps

1. Open Create AISign in and pick Create AI from the home screen. If you would rather see a finished character before you build one, the Feed shows Platform Models you can chat with for free. This guide is about building your own, so come back to Create AI when you are ready.
2. Choose realistic or animeThis is the choice with the longest shadow. It decides how every selfie and every video scene renders for as long as the character exists, and you cannot blend the two styles in one character. If you want both, build two. 3. Design her lookBody type, hair, eyes, skin tone and outfit. Swipey's image generation is character-locked, which the pricing page describes as "same face, same body, every render". Whatever you set here follows her into every photo and video. Spend your time on the face and the hair. Outfits change from scene to scene anyway, and you can edit the design later.
4. Define her personalityThe builder offers five traits, flirty, dominant, shy, intellectual and nurturing, and lets you mix them rather than pick one. Since 20 August 2026 it also asks about her preferences, with tiered progression so more of her opens up as you level. The mix shapes her tone, how quickly she moves a conversation along and which sides of her appear at each of the ten relationship levels. 5. Pick her voiceThe voice plays in the voice messages she sends in chat and in real-time voice calls, both Premium features. Since 17 September 2026 the messages go both ways, so you can record your own voice instead of typing and she answers every one. After a call, a Memory card appears in the chat with the call length, level progress and a transcript, so what she says in that voice becomes part of what she remembers. 6. Set a location and scenarioThe location and scenario steps joined the builder in late August 2026. You decide where she is and what is happening when the first message arrives. Pick one of the 100+ scenarios, which keep plot memory as the story runs, or write your own. This is the cheapest thing to change later, so do not agonise over it.
7. Start chattingMemory starts with your first message and carries across sessions and devices. Tell her your name and one true thing about your week. Both should show up in her Memory cards, which you can review in the Memory Details view. From here the relationship levels take over, and each level-up opens a reward drop with three cards to choose from.

Build your own AI girlfriend: what each choice changes

People tend to spend their two minutes in the wrong place, usually on the outfit. This table shows what each builder choice affects once you are chatting.

Two features sit outside the builder but depend on it. Group Chat, which shipped on 27 August 2026, lets you put your custom AI in a room with one or two other characters, with its own location and scenario picker. And any image she sends can be edited in place with the pencil icon, or turned into a video of up to 60 seconds, without touching the design you set here.

After you create your own AI girlfriend: keep her private or publish her

Every Custom AI starts private. Nobody else can find her or chat with her, and for most people that is where she stays. Since 23 September 2026 there is a second option. The Creator Community lets you submit a character you built for publication, so other Swipey members can meet her too.

• Who can submit. Premium members who have linked their Discord account. There is a daily limit on submissions.
• Review. The Swipey team checks every submission and either approves it or rejects it with a reason.
• What public looks like. Her profile shows "by @username", people can follow her and send you hearts as donations, and she can appear on the leaderboards for top creators and top characters, which rank by interactions. Public characters also show under the Community tag on the home screen and the Community filter in the Feed.
• What you give up. Publishing is permanent. A published character cannot be made private again or edited, and media generated for her is posted on her profile, although you can hide individual posts.

That last point is the reason to wait. Chat with her for a week, fix what you want in Edit My AI, and submit only once her look, personality and voice feel settled. If you like experimenting, build a second character for the Community and keep the first one private. Donations arrive as hearts, and there are no cash payouts to creators. What to leave for later

Backstory detail, outfit decisions and scenario collections can all wait. Build her in two minutes, chat for a day, then open Edit My AI with real information about what you enjoyed and what fell flat. Memory and relationship levels survive the edit, so nothing is lost by starting simple.

Two quick wins for the first day. Ask for a photo in context ("send me one from the café") rather than with a generic request, and let the character-consistent generation do the rest.
